We’re retiring our first-generation gate controller in favour of a faster, more efficient, and more capable device — and we’re replacing it for free. Here’s what’s changing and how to claim your upgrade before June 30th. Message us on Instagram to get started.
A Quick Note to Our Existing Users
If you’re currently using our first-generation Gated Home controller, here’s what you need to know: we’re ending support for it on September 30th, 2026, after which it will no longer function. We’re offering a free replacement with our new device — message us on Instagram to claim yours before June 30th and ensure uninterrupted service.
What we’re announcing is the next step in our roadmap — a new hardware generation that’s more efficient, more capable, and better positioned for the features we’re building next. When the time is right, we’ll work with you directly to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Why a New Device?
When we launched the first Gated Home controller, we built it to solve a real problem: convenient, app-based gate access without the hassle of traditional remotes. And it does that well.
But as we’ve grown, we’ve invested heavily in making the platform better — not just in software, but in the hardware foundation underneath it all. The new device isn’t a reaction to a problem with the old one. It’s the result of everything we’ve learned about what a gate controller needs to be.
What’s Improved
Smaller Footprint, Lower Power Draw
The new controller is built on a modern RISC-V architecture with a leaner software stack. It introduces Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) support using the NimBLE stack — a purpose-built BLE stack for constrained devices. This means:
- Offline gate access — open your gate directly from your phone via Bluetooth, even when the internet is down
- ~20 KB less RAM usage compared to alternative Bluetooth stacks — significant on a device that runs Bluetooth and WiFi simultaneously
- More headroom for new features without adding hardware cost
For you, this means a device that runs cooler, responds faster, and can open your gate even when your internet is out.
Smarter Connectivity
Your Bluetooth access works regardless (that never depends on the internet), but cloud features like remote access, notifications, and activity logs recover faster and more reliably.
Streamlined Device Setup
We’ve replaced the custom Bluetooth setup flow with a standardised provisioning protocol. The new setup process is faster, more reliable across different phone models, and includes Proof of Possession — a unique per-device secret that ensures only you can configure your controller. Each device ships with its own random credential, so there’s no shared password that could be compromised.
What This Means for First-Generation Devices
Your current device continues to work. We’re not disabling anything, and we’ll continue to support it on our platform. You’ll still get app updates and your access logs will still sync.
Support for the first-generation device ends on September 30th, 2026. After that date, it will no longer function. Message us on Instagram before June 30th to claim your free replacement and avoid any interruption to your service.
The Bottom Line
The first-generation Gated Home controller did its job — and it still does. The new generation does that same job more efficiently, with more room to grow, and with hardware-level protections that align with where the industry is heading.
We build for the long term. This upgrade is part of that commitment.
